Revealed: TikTok Looks To Expand Its Video Length Limit To Three Minutes
TikTok has revealed that it is currently looking into increasing its on-platform video length.
Users will soon be able to share video content that lasts up to three minutes in comparison to its current 60 second limit.
Social media consultant, Matt Navarra – who is well-known for being an industry commentator, tipster and leader – shared the below tweet, which reveals what the latest update will consist of.
Previously, TikTok limited video content on its platform to only 15 seconds, but this was recently updated with the ability to put four 15-second segments together.
This potential increase will create a massive impact to content creation on the app and how users and brands navigate the platform. It will cause a huge change in the type of videos being created and the level of information conveyed will increase.
But, what will this mean for the videos that appear on a user’s feed?
Currently many consumers cut their videos up into part one, part two and part three for example, but with this potential new update this will all change.
Users will be able to tell their story in one simple video piece.
This begs the question, will users stay engaged with content if it’s longer?
TikTok was first developed to allow social media fanatics to create short video snippets which grab people’s attention.
This new update will change TikTok’s USP completely.
However, it does mean that the network’s creators can be more flexible with the content they produce. By having longer videos, they can be more informative and educational.
So, what can you expect to see if this new update does get the go ahead?
Here are just a couple of our predictions:
- Brand Promotions
- Tutorials
- Step-by-step guides
- Recipes
- Arts & Crafts
With the flexibility to show more in a longer time-span, means creators don’t have to rush quite as much. More clips can be combined together with detailed narration.
TikTok is well-known for its short video content format, so this new update may come as a shock to consumers.
TikTok could separate longer and shorter videos, so users can gravitate towards what type of content they want to watch.
It also means that TikTok could become more of an education resource, which brings in many more opportunities such as educational lessons.
